What We Did

On this trip we went to Odiorne point by buss and went tide pooling, and played wiffle ball. When we got there we put are bags on a picnic table and started tide pooling. When we went tide pooling were we found a lot of crabs and snails. Finally we ate lunch there, and on are way back we got ice cream the size of a soft ball at johnsons and went back to the school.

Why Tides Occur

Tides are when the water goes in and out which is called low tide and hightide. Tides occur because the moon's gravitational pull pulls the water closer to it which is called high tide. When that part of the earth is not close to the moon the water is not pulled as much causing low tide.

Inter Tidal Zones

The inter tidal zones are 4 zones in between land and water. The black is the closest to land, it’s called the black zone because cyanobacteria coat the rocks making them look black. The white zone is next down from the black zone, it’s called the white zone because hundreds of barnacles coat the rocks making them look white. The brown zone is called the brown zone because rock weed and knotted wrack cover the rocks making them look brown. Finally there's the red zone where Irsh Moss can be found which gives this zone its red color.

What We Saw

When we first went into the Inter Tidal Zone, we climbed down on some slick rock were we entered the black zone were there were a lot of pariwinkles or snails. Then we entered the white zone were I saw a few Barnacles and a few crabs and more sanils. Next we entered the brown zone were the water got higher and I saw a lot of Knotted Wrack and Rock Weed. I also saw a lot of snails were I also saw a Northern Sea star, and baby lobsters. Finally we entered the red zone were I saw a lot of Irish moss and some baby fish.

WHERE is there the most variety, and WHY do you think this is?

I think that the most varitey is in the brown zone, I think this because when we went to odiorne we saw the most variety in the brown zone, for example I saw a northern sea star in the brown zone, I also saw a lot snails and little crabs. Then we also saw a lot of knotted wrack and rock weed, next I saw some baby lobsters. Finally in the brown zone there was a lot baby fish, overall I think the brown zone has the most variety `because the waters shallow but not shallow causing a lot of organisms to live there.
