Where is Mount Cardigan?

Cardigan Mountain is in Alexandria, NH. From the town of Alexandria, once in town, you take a left, and then you will come upon a dirt road that leads to the AMC lodge. This dirt road is about 5 miles long. Once you are at the AMC lodge, Mt Cardigan Summit is 2 miles west. Also, Mt Cardigan is about 2 miles northwest of Tewksbury Pond and 5 miles west of Newfound Lake. The exact GPS coordinates of the Mount Cardigan fire tower are N 43 degrees 38 minutes 53 seconds W 71 degrees 54 minutes 52 seconds. At the summit of Mount Cardigan, you are 3,155 ft above sea level.

What does Mount Cardigan look like?

Mount Cardigan is a beautiful mountain in Alexandria, NH. It is home to lots of life and many enjoy a nice peaceful hike through nature and a breathtaking view at the summit. One thing that differentiates Mount Cardigan from other NH mountains is that it is bare rock at the summit. Early on wildfires burned and wiped out most of the life on the top of the mountain. Supposedly from human impact. Once you are at the tippy top you come to a large firetower that was made in 1904, in the cement near it you can see carvings of people’s names who have reached the summit in the past. Also, about two miles east of the summit is an Appalachian Mountain Club Lodge that was made for hikers to stay overnight or simply to park their vehicles before they begin their trek up the mountain. This is a beautiful blue-gray building that was built right next to solar panels to light up the lodge. Also, about a mile away from the lodge is an old cellar hole. It is built from rocks and there once stood a house long ago. There are no records of this house and when it was built but the cellar remains.

About half a mile north of the AMC lodge is a beautiful waterfall that is also known as Welton Falls. Erosion has been carved through the rock to make a beautiful waterfall and a pool at the bottom. The basin of Cardigan Mountain is also home to lots of life. It includes a wide variety of trees, cucumber root plants, moles, squirrels, and lots of other rodents and birds. The first day we went on this loop to Welton Falls, and there was this huge ledge before the falls that looked like half of the earth had just disappeared. Believe it or not, gravity made this landfall down slowly creating this death-threatening drop. All that is keeping this from giving away, even more, is a tree and its roots. Another ledge on the hike up Mount Cardigan is PJs ledge. This is a beautiful ledge that allows you to look at the other mountains in the area, and this was naturally made by the shape of Mount Cardigan.

We had the wonderfull oppertunity to go to Mount Cardigan for three marvelous days, Day 1,also on Day 2, and then again on Day 3
