We first got onto two different busses for 1 hour and a half to get to somewhere near odiorne point and we walked to odiorne point. Then we went down to the water and caught some stuff and put it into a little aquarium. We let out the stuff and got some icecream before coming back to school and either just leaving immediately or staying in an advisory for half an hour.
Tides are from the moon’s gravitational pull pulling the water to bulge in different places at different times and at other times to be lower. The bulges are on opposite sides of the earth at the same time making the rest lower.
There are 4 tidal zones, the black/splash zone, the white zone, the brown zone and the red zone. The black/splash zone is the farthest up the beach only getting occasional splashes every 12 hours. In the black zone, there are cyanobacteria on the rocks making it look black even though it’s really just some rocks. The white zone isn’t really that white it just has a lot of barnacles making white spots. Then the brown zone has brownish greenish seaweed all over it. The red zone is the closest to the water and most commonly in the water with irish moss on the rocks there.
I found multiple little crabs and a couple of hermit crabs. I saw a lot of rocks with seaweed on them. There were a lot of snails on the rocks and also a lot of Irish moss on the rocks. I also saw a couple of sea urchins in the water.
