Where is Cardigan Mountain?
The fire tower of Mount Cardigan is 15 feet high and is 3,121 feet above sea level. The Fire Tower is north 43 degrees, 39 minutes, 07 seconds, west 071 degrees 55 minutes, and 04 seconds. The Cardigan fire tower is three miles east of the Appalachian Mountain Club Lodge but is also about one mile West of the Firescrew summit and west of Newfound lake. The town of Orange is 2.3 miles west of Cardigan and Firescrew and the town of Alexandria is east 14.5 miles of Cardigan and Firescrew. The two towns of Orange and Alexandria cut right through the mountains of Cardigan and Firescrew. The Geologic site of the Sculpted Rocks and the Polar Caves are both north of Cardigan.
What is Cardigan Mountain Like?
The water gushes below me as I stare out at Welton falls, little splatters of rain drops ooze their way down my forehead blurring my vision of the falls. We wandered up the muddy trail, the trees gazing down at us with their prickly claws. We finally reached the summit, its rocky face like an old man's bald head, the lonely lingering trees like little patches of graying hair. The wind harshly tries to pull my friends and I down as it speeds across the summit sending little ripples across the alpine bog. The Firescrew summit sits still as we look down on it.
The Appalachian Mountain Club lodge looms over me as I stare into the misty sky, the huge pallet of solar panels straining to get just one little ray of sunlight. The mud sloshes around as I stand on the wooden bridge, the knots on it staring up at like little owl eyes. The rock stepping stones people put out to stop the erosion are like little lily pads floating on the surface of a pond. I stare down at the pot of loneliness that the cellar hole was left with. The ski slope challenges us to run down the whole thing, careful not to slip and fall on the steep hill. I stare up at the fire tower standing taller than all of us combined with a one strong sturdy structure reaching into the sky.
We were there for three rainy days, day1 when we went to Welton falls and the cellar hole, then day2 when we went to the summit of Cardigan, and finally day3 when we did the mystery of the trees.
