First I got on bus 1. I put on headphones and sat there for a bit being quiet. But then everyone fully woke up and started to be crazy. There was markers being strewn around. There was candy, pretzels and other food. We were trying to get people to wave. We got a truck to honk. It was an all around high energy bus ride. We got there and walked over to the sidewalk where we were told all of the things that we had to do. We dropped our bags and went over to the tide pools. I found a lot of snails and barnacles right off the bat. I went in to my ankles and it took and minute too adapt to but I did. I found a lot of small crabs and hermit crabs. I found a couple big crabs and started to go deeper and deeper. After I got pretty wet I had to check in with Mrs. Roberts. I ate my luch and played some football. We then went home on the bus. We drove for about 25 minutes and stopped for ice cream. I got cotton candy flavored. It was so big it was hard to eat it all. We then went the rest of the way home. My advisory teacher was not there so I had to go to Mr. Woolner's advisory and played trashsketball with Ethan.
The tides occur because of the magnetic pull of the moon. But, it also goes to the other side of the earth. But the sides that are 90° away from the moon go in which is low tide. High tide is when the moon is facing the water. The inertia creates the other bulge of water. That is why it is high tide on the opposite sides of the earth.
The four tidal zones are the Black or Splash zone, the white zone, the Brown Zone, and the Red Zone. The black or splash zone is called that because of black rocks. It is also called the splash zone because it does not get fully submerged in water but it gets splashed by the waves and the water that is going up and hitting rocks. The white zone is called the white zone because it is filled with rocks covered in barnacles so it is a black rocks that are covered in white specks. The brown zone is called the brown zone because of the seaweed and other sea plants that make it look like it is brown. The red zone is called the red zone because of a red plant called Irish Moss that is a seaweed kind of thing that is red and wispy and stringy.
I saw a lot of things while we were on this field trip. There were a lot of barnacles for a while. There were people finding snails and crabs all around. There were quite a few hermit crabs that were running around. There were some baby lobsters and grown lobsters. There were a couple of star fishes. There were some baby fish. I found some tunicate and sea urchins. There were a lot of baby crabs. There were also a couple of baby fish found.
I think that the most variety was in the brown zone. I think that this is because there is a good split of when the brown zone is and isn't covered in water. So the animals aren't always under water and aren't always above water. They will get warm for a little bit and then cool down for a little bit so you won't find any fried lobster in the Krust Krab. Just Larry the Lobster and Mr. Krabs.
This is a picture I drew of a hermit crab.
This is a picture I drew of a tunicate.
This is a picture that I drew of different sea stars and an urchin.
