On June 7 2022, I got out of bed and was ready for one of the best field trips. When I got to school I had to figure out which bus I was on because we were taking two. I got bus two with a bunch of my friends. The trip was super fun. I put on some music and chatr to friends. When we got there I put on my adventure crocks and headed straight to the tide pools. I looked around for about an hour and found many cool things. Then it was time to go, on the way back we stopped to get ice cream. The ice cream was amazing, so good that after I fell asleep on the bus and when I woke up I was back at school then I went home.

How the tides work How tides work are by the moon, the Moon's gravitational pull. The water tends to pull to the moon and always makes a bulge on two sides of the earth. As you probably know the Earth spins around in a circle ounces a day. The bulge of water does not move but we do, as we enter the bulge or getting closer that's when the high tide starts to come in and when you get to the middle of the bulge it is high tide. And when you start to leave it is becoming low tide, and when you are not in the bulge you are in low tide.

Zones in Odiorne Point

Black Zone At Odiorne, there are 4 different types of zones when climbing down to get to the subtitles pools of water. The first one is the black zone/ splash zone, this is the zone where all the rocks are black. These rocks are covered in cyanobacteria which make them the color they are. This zone barely gets covered in the water during a high tide.

White Zone The next zone down is the white zone, it is called the white one because all the rocks are covered in little creatures called barnacles. Even though the rocks are actually black the barnacles are covering almost all of the rocks which gives the increase of them being white. This zone gets fully covered when it is high tide.

Brown Zone The next zone after the white zone is called the brown zone, it is called the brown zone because all the rocks are covered in rockweed and knotted wrack, which is both seaweed. The rock and knotted wrack are both brown in color and cover almost all the rocks giving them a brown color. At high tide, this zone is also completely covered.

Red Zone The last zone is called the red zone. It is called the red zone because the rocks are covered in Irish Moss, the moss color is red, and just like the brown zone is covering all the rocks. This makes the rock a red color. At low tide, you can barely see this zone but at high tide half your body is in the water to see it.

There were many things I saw in the tidepools, for example I saw two hermetcrab fighting and lots and lots of crabs. There was a crab bigger than my hand, I also saw a star fish. It was one of the coolest creatures I saw. There were also lots of baby lobsters. I tried to change one but failed. There were a lot of limpets. I also tickled it. Almost half of the rocks were covered in rockweed and knotted wrack. There were a couple of sea urchins there too. When the time was getting to the end, the teacher led me and a small group to the drowned forest and we saw many old tree stumps and roots.

WHERE is there the most variety, and WHY do you think this is?

I think there is a lot of variety and creatures in the red zone and tide pools. I think this because I saw many, I mean a lot of creatures looking through the water in the red zone because most of it was coved and the creatures that live there mostly spend time in the water. The one other section I found many varieties were the tide pools against the creatures like to be in the water and the tide pools have lots of water. I think I saw about the same amount of creatures in both, I saw a pertty big lobster in the tide pools and it tryed to clime on me so I ran away. In the red zone i saw a lot of irish moss.

In the picture above the drawing is a periwinkle, these creatures can be found in almost any zone. In the picture above the drawing is a green crab. These creatures can be found in the brown, red and tidle zones.
In the picture above the drawing is a baracle these can be mostly found in the white zone beucase it covers most of the rocks. In the picture above it is a drawing of mussels these can be found in the tide pools hanging onto rocks.
