If you start at the AMC lodge right by Mt. Cardigan and in the town of Alexandra, it is also 43 miles away from the town of Hopkinton NH where we started. Walk West, straight from the AMC loge about 200 feet to where you find a fork in the road. Make sure to take the right path to get to the summit of Firescrew. When you are on the path, there are trail makers that use the white stip onm paint, these can be found on trees and rocks. Use this path to get to the top. When you reach the top the latitude is 43 degrees, 39 minutes 22 second N and the longitude is 71 degrees 54 minutes 33 seconds W.
If you want to head over to Cardigan do not go down Firesrew. There is a ridge you can take to get there. From the top of the Firescrew head Noth and straight for about 500 to about 700 steps. Then you made it and you will know you will be there if you see a fire tower at the top. If you are still not sure, the latitude for Cardigen is 43 degrees 43 degrees 38 minutes 57 seconds N and the longitude is 71 degrees 54 minutes 42 seconds for the summit of the Cardigan, Mt.Cardigan is also in the town of Orange.
Cardigan is a physical geography that has many trees on it such as pine and beech trees. On the top of Cardigan, you can see other mountains like Firecrew, Cannon mountain, and more. The summit is high up like 3500ft in the air. There are many little pebbles upon the bare rock summit and there and bigger rocks too. The view is amazing, the blue skie and a nice breeze, felt really good after hiking the mountain. There is a forest near Cardigan, in the forest you can see and find many things. Like a lot of mushrooms leaves trees, but my favorite thing in the forest is Welton falls. There is glimmering water coming out of a waterfall that connects to the river. And Little pool it falls into. The water is deep in some parts and is about ankle length. When we were there the water was freezing then got slowly warmer if you go in longer. The bottom is covered in rocks from huge ones to little ones that make the water glimmer in the sunlight.
The AMC loge is cultural geography, the AMC loge that we started at had huge solar panels that take sunlight and turn it into electricity for the building. The building was two stories high and had a porch off it. It was covered in white paint with windows on each side. The other thing we saw was an old car that was there to lift a ski lift a while ago. The car is broken down with the door hanging off of it and no seat cushion on it. The car is a light baby blue with rusted spots on it. It has no engine so it could not move. The car looks a little like a bunch bugie but we don’t really know what kind of car it is. All around Cardigan there are rock walsl but the coolest rock thing was the cellar hole that was found on one of the many trails. One of the coolest things was the fire tower on top of Cardigan. There were caving of names on it and some with on the rock, but some people used pen or sharpie to write on them. The fire tower was held up by pillars and was wired to the ground so it wouldn't blow away.
We were they for three days with lot of sun, day 1 Sept. 19, day 2 Sept.20,day 3 Sept.21
