Day 1 of Cardigan Trip
Stepping off the bus and wading through the tall grass to where Mr. Woolner was ushering us. We played a few games in the field next to the Cardigan AMC Lodge and met with our hiking groups. Then my small group of five kids, a parent chaperone and a guide started the four mile loop of the hiking trail that starts on the Back 8O trail and passes Welton Falls. The weather was nice, warm, sunny and beautiful. It had rained a lot recently and the trail was muddy even with the planking. We saw lots of beech trees and cucumber of the forest plants, which have roots you can eat. We came across Clark Brook a lot and had fun hanging out on its shore. There were different regions that we passed through on our hike, like stream regions or logging regions. We also saw beech and road regions. It was only four miles but we saw different sights.
