Description of day 1:

On this strange Sunday morning I woke up early. My mother and father dropped me off at the side entrance of the school for my 3 day hiking field trip. We got on the bus and Emma HS, Aly, and I sat in the front few seats of the bus. When we arrived we met the counselors. We played a weird farm animal game and then we split into groups. My counselor was named Tom. I had Alice, Tyler, Ethan, Devin, Josh, Coley, and Mason in my group. We hiked a somewhat bumpy trail in the woods at the base of Cardigan mountain. To pass the time we played some rhyming games. Then we stopped for lunch and Mr.Woolner told us a story about the trees and their pine cones. We did lots of sketches of nature that we saw. I got to carry the GPS the whole day. On our walk we saw a waterfall and we stopped to sketch it. Later on in the trip we found a wide dirt road that led us 0.9 miles further in the trail. Then later in our trip my group found a Geocash and a lot of the boys got to sign the little notebook inside it. But I didn't. On the way back I had some candy and I complained about my too big hiking boots. I was tired but the day was fun and I had a good experience.

Theme of Day 1:

Human Environmental Interaction

The theme of geography for my day 1 at Cardigan mountain is human environmental interaction. I chose this because of the long dirt roads made by humans (both at the lodge and on the trail) and the trail itself. I also saw a geocache put in a secret spot on a trail, placed there by people multiple years ago. All these things and more show how humans and the environment interact and how humans can change the environment for the better, and sometimes for the worst.
