Where is Cardigan?

At Cardigan mountain, we used GPSs to find the latitude and longitude, (absolute location.) For example N 43 degrees 38 seconds 58.5 minutes W 071 degrees 54 seconds 51.3 minutes is the latitude and longitude of when I was at the summit, but if it is relative location you could say, the summit of Cardigan mountain is about 0.3 miles away from the AMC (Appalachian Mountain Club) lodge in Alexandria, New Hampshire and east of the mountain of firescrew. You can also find a fire tower located at the top of Cardigan Mountain. Fun fact, Cardigan mountain is split between the town of Orange and Alexandria yet the summit of the mountain is in the town of Alexandria.

What is Cardigan Really Like?

Place is a really really really good description that makes it sound special and different. There are two types of places, physical and cultural. Physical geography is nature, or natural occurrences. For example, at Cardigan mountain some physical geography features would be the mud on the trail, Welton falls, wild cucumber and birds migrating. All-natural happenings. As well as the small salamanders and small shimmery bits of mica encrusted into the grey rock. While we were at Cardigan Mountain we also worked on leaving no trace, meaning, we picked up our trash, and made sure that the trails and nature looked just as good if not better than before.

Cultural geography on the other hand are things that are not from nature. They are things people helped or made happen. At Cardigan Mountain we saw things like trail blazes, the AMC (Appalachian Mountain Club) lodge building, bear boxes, solar panels and much, much more. When we reached the top of Cardigan, there were lots of examples of physical and cultural geography. The mountains in the distance and the fire tower at the top! Also, the things like bear boxes at the campsites are used to store food so that the bears will not come over to the campsite and steal your food.

We were at Cardigan for three days, day one, and then again on day two, and finally day three.
