Physical Surroundings

The AMC Lodge takes care of several different mountains and a network of well-kept trails. Two of the mountains include Cardigan Mountain and Firescrew Mountain. Those are the two mountains the majority of the seventh grade hiked. The majority of seventh grade hiked to the top of at least one summit, and some groups reached two summits. From the two summits, one could see a valley and several mountains in the distance. The valleys had patches of rust and gold, where deciduous trees are losing their leaves. Pines, Hemlocks and Firs edged into the colorful forest, leaving patches of dark green. In the far distance, one can see a town. There are two towns close by Cardigan Mountain and AMC Cardigan Lodge. The nearest towns are Alexandria, NH; and also Orange, NH. Seeing both towns at once would be impossible-they are on opposite sides of the mountain.

Cultural Surroundings

Located in North New hampshire, the AMC Cardigan Lodge is in Bristol County. Close to both Alexandria and Orange, the lodge is a great place to stay, as well as warm and comfortable. The lodge is ecological, and uses solar panels to provide a source of sustainable energy. As well as using renewable energy, the lodge also uses recycled materials. AMC cares about the environment they let people hike in, and also the environments they do not take care of, which means they are careful about what they consume. The staff at the lodge show a lot of care for their job and what the job means to everyone who goes to the lodge or mountain. They work hard to clean and make sure the lodge is as nice as possible. There are places to eat, sleep, and whatever else one could need. The view is beautiful, the place is comfortable and cozy, and the people who are there to help love their job.

We were at cardigan for three days, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.
