Human-Environment Interaction at Cardigan
Humans can change nature in several ways when spending the day hiking at Mt. Cardigan. For example, when we prepared our hike, Gretchen brought a lot of snacks with wrapping to protect the snacks; Cheez-its, M&M´s, fruit bars and granola bars for everyone. Gretchen told us “whatever you carry into the woods with you, you take out with you.” I carried all my snack and sandwich wrappers down the mountain and I threw the wrappers away in the trash at the lodge. Leaving the trash on the trails pollutes the environment and could potentially harm the wildlife. I would not want to see other hikers trash left behind on my walk up the mountain when I am trying to enjoy nature. My group did see a soda can on the hike, and Gretchen picked it up and took it back to the Lodge to throw it away. Seeing garbage left behind in the woods made be feel disappointed and sad. It is also gross to pick up other hikers' garbage.
