My Super Fun and Crazy Cardigan Hike

The regions of trees on Mount Cardigan.

Location:

The location of Mount Cardigan is right near lake New Found. Cardigan is about a one hour drive north from Hopkinton Middle High School. Mount Cardigan is in the town of Alexandria which is in the county of Orange. Cardigan is not in the White Mountains except for a little part which is in the White Moutain forest. The coordinates: 43°38'59'' North 71°54'53'' West Mount Cardigan is nearby Bristol NH, Bridgewater NH, Hebron NH.

Cultural:

The AMC lodge was founded quite recently, but it wasn’t built so recent. It was originally a barn. This makes it have the old rustic feeling in the inside, which makes it have a homie feel in the side of the lodge. The food at Cardigan is some of the best food you will ever have in your life. At the summit of Mt.Cardigan, there is a bare rock summit which is caused because of a forest fire in 1855, which means there are no trees at the top of Mt.Cardigan. At the top of Mt.Cardigan, there is a lookout tower that is all boarded up. If you plan to go to Mt.Cardigan I would recommend staying at the Amc lodge and trying to Tom the chef’s food.

Physical:

And of course, hiking Mount Cardigan. Mount Cardigan was filled with color when we went. At the bottom of the mountain, it was around 2-3 miles to the top of the mountain. As we went up the trail, the trails were a bit tamp because it had a little bit of precipitation. When you keep heading up the mountain you will have the choice of going to the summit of Firescrew or you can head up to Cardigan. Or as my group did you could do both. From Firescrew to Cardigan it about 0.5 miles to the other summit. On the way down from the summit you will head down the side of the mountain, which feels like you will go right off the mountain. Since Cardigan is used as a ski mountain as well as a hiking mountain you can use the trails for either. My group took a ski trail which was extra wet because it had much more vegetation around it. When you have a chance of going to do a hike I would recommend doing either Firescrew or Cardigan. The views are both amazing.
