Day 3

Day 3 (regions)

Our third-day at Cardigan started with the smell of bacon and french toast. We rose from our beads to a breakfast of french toast, bacon, and fresh maple syrup. After breakfast, we again made sandwiches for the trails. Each group had a turn to make their sandwiches and pick out a fresh apple. After lunch building, we were sent to our rooms to get packed. We met up with our groups on the lawn after to talk about what we were going to do today.

We were taught how to use a compass to find our way around the area. This was going to be the first time that we were going to explore a region called the Alpine region. They introduced rhymes like “Red Fred in the shed.” After a couple of quick checks to make sure we got the point, we were given the packed called “The Mystery of the Trees.” Our goal was to find trees and to unfold the Cardigan secrets using a compass.

Unfortunately, another group went a minute before we departed, so we had to stall a little, to give them time to start. Mr. Wolner took us to a certain part of a rock wall to show us where he thought there might have been a farm. His claim was that on one side of the rock wall contained younger trees than the dead, old trees planted on the other side. These were human regions because of the clear diferential of where the planted the trees. He said that it was to create boundaries for the farm. After taking a sketch of that we were able to start our journey.

With compass in our hands, we started the hunt to find the trees. Our cards said stuff like walkabout 31 steps northwest to a large tree. From tree to tree we would go, sketching each one and learning about them.

After a while, we had a snack break. We were introduced to HOMEMADE SPICY TRAIL MIX. It was really good. And surprisingly filling. We also had beech nuts that we found on the ground. I picked up a lot so that I could snack on them during the later parts of our trip. We hiked up about 150ish steps to an old trail lift.

This was the final part of our trip. We finished just in time to have lunch on a beautiful bridge. For dessert we had Oreos. We left the bridge to the bus. On our way home we thanked the AMC workers just like they had greeted us about two days ago.
