Cardigan is near the White Mountains in Alexandra, NH. To get to the AMC Lodge it will take about an hour. Mt Cardigan is about 45 miles away from Hopkinton, NH. The latitude and longitude are 43 degrees, 71 degrees 52’42.9’’. The lodge is on the same road as an apple orchard. The AMC lodge has 4 floors. The lodge has a lot of fields all around it. There were also big solar panels on the right side of the lodge. You can see the mountain from some of the rooms. On the way to the AMC lodge, we passed a lake.

Physical Geography

Cardigan Mountain is only rock on the top, with a little pool of water. Because there was a wildfire and all the trees burnt down on the top. Near the top of the mountain, there were lots of big rocks. We saw several streams and a waterfall while hiking in the area. The erosion caused by those streams helped shape the mountain to look the way it does today. Also, thousands of years ago, glaciers helped form the rock formations that we see now.

Cultural Geography

The AMC lodge is near the base of Cardigan, it was built in 1934. The AMC lodge is a popular spot for New England schools and boy scouts, these field trips tend to be overnight. Other people stay in the area for camping or some stay in the lodge. Many trails have been cut in the mountain to make it easier for the hikers. In order to maintain the environment, hikers should be careful not to litter.

our trip to cardigan went on for three days Sunday, Monday, Tuesday
