LOCATION
Absolute Location:
Our trip was to the Cardigan reservation. This is the exact location of some objects in the area. A noticeable object on Mt. Cardigan is the fire tower, which is on the summit of the hill. The absolute location of the fire tower is North 43 degrees, 38 minutes, 58.5 seconds; West 71 degrees, 54 minutes, 51.2 seconds, with an elevation of 3,155 feet. The AMC Cardigan Lodge, at the base of the mountain, is located at North 43 degrees, 13 minutes, 49.6 seconds; West 71 degrees, 52 minutes, 14.6 seconds, with an elevation of 1,392 feet.
Relative Location:
The Cardigan Lodge is East of the fire tower(mentioned above), about an hour South of the White Mountain National Forest, and approximately an hour North of Hopkinton, NH. The fire tower is West about 2 1/2 miles from the AMC lodge by trail, so it has about the same driving time as mentioned with the lodge. The Cardigan Reserve is near the towns of Bristol, Orange and Alexandria, NH. It is very close to Newfound lake.
PLACE
Cultural Place:
Sit back and relax in front of a blazing fire as you sip from a mug of delicious hot chocolate while the AMC Croo cooks a hot meal with hospitality and care. The lodge is your place to put on gear, fill up water bottles, and enjoy breakfast homemade in the morning warm up, kick off your boots, and swap tales after a long day of hiking. The lodge is a great vacation spot for casual tourists, with a campfire and pond, or a wonderful day excursion for experienced hikers, with multiple trails upkept by AMC volunteers, ranging from challenging to easy. Whoever you are, you’ll love the AMC experience.
Physical Place:
Cardigan Mountain is a 3,155 foot hill with a bare rock summit, a trait that is shared with the neighboring Firescrew Mountain. The 360 degree view is absolutely stunning, no matter what season you visit. In the spring, take in the fresh green hues of new life; in summer, find wildlife at full swing, the woods teeming with flora and fauna; in fall, be dazzled by the vibrant burst of trees entering dormancy, in the winter, find peace in the silence of delicately falling snow, which creates a cold blanket over the valley. However, in the Cardigan Reserve, Mother Nature has more in store for you than just the mountain. Take a short, easy hike to Welton Falls, a natural basin carved by the roaring river. Come to Cardigan Mountain for an enriching vacation full of new experiences.
We stayed at Cardigan for three days:Home; Wednesday day one the second of October, Thursday day two the third, and Friday the fourth;Friday day three.
