Today, the last day of our Cardigan journey, we journeyed to Welton Falls, inside of the Welton Falls State Forest. It was quite ironic, since rain was falling down on our heads, just like the waterfall. I am sure that I would have enjoyed this day much more if it had not been pouring the whole time. But anyway, at one point we came across a hill of rock with water flowing down it. Instead of just moving on, we decided to have some fun. Except it was not especially fun for me because I was not wearing my hiking shoes. After racing some leaves, we had to sketch, of course. A lot of the remainder of our journey was along a dirt road. At a certain part of it, we had to cross a little stream some ways below us on only some planks a few feet wide. That was sketchy. Soon we reached river filled with slippery boulders. And we had to cross the river on them. That was third scary part of the hike. But I made it across safely, with only sneakers. At long last we saw the river far below us. Up the hill and farther up we climbed, until at last reaching our destination, Welton Falls. It was basically some huge boulders with a little canyon carved into them on the other side of the river. That was caused by the water eroding away at the rocks for quite some time. Once the water moved through the rocks it plummeted down about a hundred feet into a narrow river, flowing down the way we had come. We tried to stop and have lunch and enjoy ourselves, but it simply was not possible with all the rain. That is why we only sketched once the whole day. Our walk back was miserable, but we were also eager and anxious to get back to the dry, warm lodge. I slipped and fell twice, getting me all muddy. When we got back, though, all I had time for was to go to the bathroom and then we were off on the bus. The ride back was very incredibly miserable since I was cold and wet and had goosebumps. Other than that day, I had a pretty nice Cardigan journey.
