Twas' day 2! We woke up quite early to get ready and have some hot chocolate. We ate breakfast in our pajamas and had eggs and bacon. Then we went back up to our rooms to pack up and get dressed for the hike ahead of us. We quickly met up with our groups to assign who had the GPS' and look over the maps. We were gonna take the Manning Trail up to Firescrew, then take the Mowligs Trail to Cardigan. That's an example of HEI, or Human-Environment Interactions when humans cleared the paths in the middle of the environment. Another example with the paths are the yellow/white/red lines painted on the rock or trees to show where to go. We started on our hike with snacks and candy provided by the AMC and Mrs. Roberts. We quickly stopped in a meadow to play a fun game and then we started hiking again. We had made a little game with the other hikers and who could get to Firescrew first. I was getting a little testy about waiting around and taking sketches because I love winning things. We got up to Firescrew with tons of sketches, pain-full legs, and lessons about nature. We ate lunch and "lightly" bragged about being first to Firescrew. We took a quick walk to Cardigan and marveled at the gorgeous view. There was graffiti almost everywhere on the mountain, yet somehow it made it look more beautiful. This is another example of HEI because of how many people carved into or drew on the mountaintop. There was a fire tower on the top of the mountain which is an example of HEI. The humans watch over the region making sure there are no forest fires so the environment stays healthy. We met up with the other groups and took some pictures. Then we started to hike down. We ate lots of cheezits and played a big game of following the leader on the way back. We stopped at a bridge and threw cheezits into the river for "science." Then we got back and had the usual fun break. Then we had a taco buffet. We had watermelon for dessert. My group was on cleanup duty, so we had to clean up all the leftovers which weren't fun. We then had a huge bonfire which was so much fun. Then we had an acting competition and my group won the second round. We then were told a story and relaxed by the fire. Then Mr. Woolner read us a different story then we went to sleep.

This is a sketch of some trees on the way there, the firetower, and a firelookout.
