Day 1 - Human Environment Interaction

On day 1, we hiked around the AMC lodge and stopped at the river. On the trails, we learned about human-environment interaction. Human-environment interaction is when humans interact with the environment, and the environment interacts with humans. An example of this is when humans/people add in wooden logs on hiking trails to prevent erosion and water ruining the trails. Another example of HEI is the weather causing people to build houses a certain way, depending on where they lived. If they lived in a more rainy or stormy climate, the roofs were and are built with low ceilings. If they lived in a colder/more snowy place, the buildings had and have high-pitched roofs for the snow to slid off. When we stopped at the river, we sketched different types of trees, and talked about what we were going to do over the three days. After that, we hiked back up the hill, towards the AMC lodge. We passed by this steep slope, and I guessed it was about a 30 foot drop to the shallow stream below. Once we got back, we ate dinner and went to bed.
We were at the AMC Cardigan Lodge for three days, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
