Cardigan in Alexandria, NH. At the summit, there is an AMC lodge that you can go to for the day, or stay overnight. As you're driving there, you'll see an apple orchard with many different kinds of apples. Even at the summit, the leaves and wildlife is still astounding. They also have little gardens along with a giant fire pit for late night activities.
Cardigan Mountain is a medium sized mountain with astonishing views. Once you reach the top, it is definitely worth the trek up. Words can not describe how free it makes you feel standing in the breeze along with all the beautiful fall colors descending throughout the crisp Autumn air. As you climb up, you will find many different habitants; such as species of moss, thousands of trees, many different bugs, rocks and minerals, lots of different birds, and so such more. It is very peaceful and relaxing at the top and the walk up, there is no sound other than the occasional bird call and the rustling of leaves.
The cultural aspects of Mt. Cardigan are almost as amazing as the physical aspects. At the top, you can find 40 year-old carvings into the stone. There is also a massive ball of granite that was once part of an avalanche hundreds of years ago. Towards the bottom on one of the many different trails, there is the remnants of an old colonial house, and all that is left is the stone basement. Even though these things don not sound like things worth mentioning, once you see them in person, you will understand just how great they are.
We were at Mt. Cardigan for three days; Wednesday , Thursday and Friday .
