He was very well known for calculating the size of the earth...but really he was 3,000 miles off of his calculation, still people belived him. He said the earth was 28,000 miles but really its 25,000 miles. And also read an article about a well in Syene that sunlight shines straight down on one day and went to the well to see if that actually was a real thing and why it was happening. \
