This is an image of what Columbus thought the world was in size. Columbus believed that the world was only 18,000 miles.
What is your reaction to the events? How does it make you feel? How could anyone be so stupid to follow Columbus in a voyage that says that they are taking a shorter route to Asia and that the world is smaller than people think. Also How could Columbus to be so stupid to thin k the the world was that small but yet he was so good at latitude. I Wonder Question: Were any of the crew suspicous when Columbus would tell them how far they were one day and then the next say that they traveld less than the day before.
The voyage to the Carribean region a slow but smooth journey. They sailed about 5 degrees west everyday about. At about three quarters of the way to "Asia" one of the crew yelled "LAND!" but as they got closer the land just happened to disappear. People today believe that they saw the Sargasso Sea.While they were sailing they spotted birds fly over head and they decided to follow them becasue they would most likely be flying to land.About five days later they actually spotted land and discovered the Carribean Region. The voyage took 33 days, they left on August 3rd 1492 and anchored on October 12th 1492.
What is your reaction to the events? How does it make you feel?
Christopher Columbus made me mad because he thinks that he is so great when really he isn't and he is just a con man who only thinks about himself. Also I hate him becasue he has lied to his crew through out the voyage and was such a bad leader that they lost one ship and was seperated from the other.
I Wonder Question:
Did he ever find gold or any vauables on the island?
What is your reaction to the events? How does it make you feel?
I am surprised that they would just let Morning Girl swim out to a random boat full of random people instead of attack them. Also it surprises me that she was not scared to go out and see these new people coming to her island.
I Wonder Question:
How did the rest of her tribe react to the new comers.
What is your reaction to the events? How does it make you feel?
Why would someone be so stupid to think that a long vibrant vegetable would be the same as small black balls that are hard be the same. Also I hate how columbus made people pickstraws to see who would go on the island and when he got the short straw that he said best two out of three. But it made me happy when he got the short straw again.
I Wonder Question:
When he brought the pepper back to the king and queen did they actually believe that it was pepper. Also when they saw the servants that he brought back did they believe that they were indian.
What is your reaction to the events? How does it make you feel? I find this event frustrating because he is lying to his crew members and taking there gold. Also because he goes and steals or takes the natives novelties and people. How Does/Can This Relate to Your Life. This connects to my life because I like to explore and connect knik-knacks but I don't steal or kidnap anyone.
I Wonder Question: Did he actually find the correct novelties that he was looking for?
The journey back from so called "Asia" was not the best for colombus and his crew. First off for nine days they had no wind and sailed very little, but then they got a lot of wind for a big part of the journey. But that is becasue of a strom that had been creeping up on them and when it struck things went downhill very fast. For one the nina got separated from the pinta and the pinta thought that the nina sank. Second the Pinta got to Portugal just before the ship was about to sink. Lastly the rest of the way back was a smooth sail because they got help from the Portuguese.
