Dante Alighieri, son of Alighiero, was born in June of 1265 in Florence, Italy. He died in September 1321, in Ravenna, also in Italy. His mother died when he was seven, in 1272. He wrote The Divine Comedy, a trilogy of adventures through hell, purgatory and heaven, in the local language, Italian, instead of Latin. Because of this, other nations couldn't understand it as well as if it had been in Latin. In his first book, Inferno, he is taken on a tour through hell by an ancient Roman poet.
