Day Three Movement

Day three did not start out that well. The Matthews and I awoke at about 7:00 to a cold, rainy morning. We had breakfast, and then departed on our hikes. Even though it was rainy, there were still a lot of cool trees and shrooms to check out. Not to far into our hike, there was this Hawthorn tree covered in big, sharp thorns. Our guide Emma, who is from Maine, explained that a specific bird catches insects and puts them on the spikes to save for later. America is full of neat natural surprises like that. It makes me think about what the Pilgrims must have thought when the first migrated here from Europe. Not so long after the Hawthorn, there was an old cellar hole which was currently resident to an angry squirrel, who clearly was not happy about us being there. About a quarter mile down the trail after that, the trail started to snake along right next to a large creek. Talk about erosion. At one point, there was a ten foot drop carved by the creek, and it was growing bigger. Not to long after the drop, we came to a spot where we crossed the stream, then we ate Cheez-Its. Next to where we ate, there were some large, spiky fungi that looked like grenades. Next, we finally arrived at our destination: Welton Falls! The stream poured out over 20 foot cliffs into a deep rock pond bordered by 30 foot cliffs of sheer rock. The pond poured out into a stream, which is where we had lunch in the pouring rain. Luckily, I was wearing my supa mega cool raincoat(which I think was shipped here from a foreign land), so I was nice and dry. Back at the lodge, we got our stuff and waited for the bus. Still soaked, we traveled home.

We where there for 3 days.

Sunday, Monday, Tuesday.
