The absolute location of Cardigan Lodge can be found in Alexandria, New Hampshire. It is located approximately at 43. 38 degress and 9.6 minutes N latitude and a longitude of 71. 52 degress and 41.8 minutes W along with an elevation of 1, 399 feet. Cardigan Lodge has a realitive location that is directions or a description of a place based off of other things. It is near the parking lot for anyone staying there infront of the building, the clearing at the side of the building, and just before a wide trail that leads to Dukes Ski Trail and the Nature Trail. It is at the bottom of both Mount Cardigan and Firescrew, which on clear days may be viewed from the lodge. Slightly farther away from Cardigan Lodge you may find Dukes Ski Trail and Welton Falls.
Cardigan Mountain is complete with many aspects of both cultural and physical geography within its surroundings. Cultural geography of this location was the Cardigan Lodge, a large grey, modern building that was once a barn. It is complete with a large porch on the side, a campfire area, and plenty of charm to provide a homey vibe to its inhabitants. Around the lodge, snaking around the area, are the vein like hiking trails which can lead hikers to Ski Trails, Firescrew or Cardigan Mountains, Welton Falls, and much more. These man made trails are maintained by the crew at AMC (Appalachian Mountain Classroom) with clearings through the woods that are wide enough for a maximum of two people to walk side by side upon without going into the woods. Another magnificent example of cultural geography at Cardigan was the firetower at the top of the mountain, a spinly construction of metal working its way up to a small room where people can go into if they work with the fire department or have special permission.
The physical attributes at Cardigan Mountain consists of numerous contributions, and I will only name a few. Firstly, there are the mountains and the rocky terrain of the location, towering above the surrounding areas with a promise of hard work to conquer the humongous twin mountains. Another physical part of the area is the Boreal, Hardwood, and Alpine Tundra zones of both Cardigan and Firescrew, each the name of the different trees found in that area, the amount decreasing the farther up the mountains you go. Another example is Welton Waterfall and the other streams and ponds surrounding the area of Cardigan, all of which connect and can be found throughout the area.
We were at Mount Cardigan and the surrounding area for three days, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday. This is the Cardigan Index.
