The latitude of the summit of Cardigan is 43.4698 degrees N. The longitude of the summit of Cardigan is 71.9148 degrees W. The elevation is 3,156 feet. We also hiked to Welton Falls. The latitude of Welton Falls is 43.6573 degrees N. The longitude of Welton Falls is 71.8644 degrees W. There are many ways to describe the relative location of Cardigan Mountain. Cardigan Mountain is directly next to Firescrew. The summit of Cardigan is 2651 feet taller in elevation than Hopkinton. Alexandria NH is 43.4 miles from Hopkinton NH. It is north of Hopkinton as well. In fact, Alexandria NH is in very northern New Hampshire.
If somebody asked my to describe Cardigan usinging culrual geography!, I would tell them about the trails that we hiked on, how they were always being kept neat by people who have "adopted" a trail. I would also tell them about everything at the summit of Cardigan. The tall firetower that we could see from Firescrew, the names and initials that were written within the stone. There was one big one dirctly next to the firetower; it read: AA Mason. I remeber trying to sketch it. On our way back, we noticed trash that has been lingering on the trails for who-knows-how-long. I would say that when we had to take a bathroom break, we went to a small lodge hidden within the woods that had a tiny outhouse in the front, and that we stumbled upon cairns along the way.
When I think back on all of the natural features of Cardigan Mountain, the first thing that I think of is the woods surrounding the mountains ans the trails. I think of all of the plants and trees that my educator taught us about. Such as the "big ash tree" or the kind of leaf that is ideal to have around when you have a bathroom emergency. I also think about the chipmunk that attacked my educator and the slug that he licked. As well as that, I think of the red spotted newt that we found while discussing our hike on the first day. We got to hold it and let it crawl up our hands and arms. The nature that is untouched by human hands is beautiful, and I hope it stays that way for many years to come.
We were enjoying Cardigan Mountain for three days: Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.
