Day One: Movement (Arrival At Cardigan)

On day one at Cardigan, we parted from our families and got on the bus. This is an example of movement. That trip carried our bodies, our luggage, and our ideas of what the trip will be like. The bus ride was about an hour long. I fell asleep for the majority of the ride. When we arrived, we got off the bus and played everybody is it outside. Then, we learned our hiking groups and were sent to out bunks to prepare ourselves for our first hike. Once we were all ready we met as groups to do some more activities for group bonding. Finally, we started on our hike. For my group, we usually stayed together and talked most of the way. It was not a difficult hike the first day, for we did not actually climb a mountain, we just did a trail. When the hike was over, everyone met back at the lodge, and we then parted to go to our bunks to enjoy some free rec time to ourselves. My bunk mates and I hung out in our room and talked about our first hike. After free rec time, we had dinner which was pork and rice. Dessert was ice cream. It was raining outside, so we stayed inside for the after dinner activity. We looked at skulls and made our own constellations. Then, we were sent back to our bunks to put on pajamas and get ready for bed (shower, brush teeth). We all came back down stairs to the living area to listen to a story read by Mr. Woolner, once everybody was prepared for bed. At about 9:30pm, it was time for lights out, and we all were snug in our beds, getting our sleep for the big day tomorrow. Day one was very eventful, but in the midst of it all, we still were able to stop and enjoy the views. A theme of geography! that I noticed was movement. We spent an hour on a bus moving from Hopkinton to Alexandria. Not only did we move, but all of hour luggage moved. Our belongings took the same trip as our bodies did. Ideas went to Cardigan as well. We had ideas of what this trip held for us, and the majority of my peers were most likely dreaming of the experience for most of the ride. so, our ideas travelled from our homes, to HMHS, to the Cardigan Mountain Lodge. The first day hit 3 of the 3 parts of the theme movement: people and ideas.
