The first day of our Mt. Cardigan trip started early in the morning at HMHS. In the morning we drove to school and loaded up the bus to head to Cardigan Mountain. When we drove to Mt. Cardigan me and all of my stuff moved from Hopkinton to Cardigan Lodge. One of the things that went to Mt. Cardigan was my Camp Belknap Nalgene water bottle and I.
When we got to Cardigan we unloaded the bus and headed up to a field next to the back porch at Cardigan lodge. In the field we played games for about an hour until Mr. Woolner was finished checking everybody in. When he was done we ventured to the nearby porch to eat our lunch. After we were done we brought our luggage up to our rooms and got settled in. While up in our rooms we got ready for a half day of hiking and sketching. We sketch in our sketch notebooks so that we have some way to record the picture that we have drawn. Mr. Woolner got the with the idea of sketching in sketch notebooks from a teacher in Oregon when he saw her sketching wildlife. This idea carried over to our Mt. Cardigan trip because we recorded all of the wild life that we saw in a sketchbook. Then when we were done we went out to the field and waited until everybody else was there so that they could tell us who our Nature teacher was.
When we were all split up we started off on our afternoon of hiking and sketching. That first day I saw a number of interesting things but some of the things that really stuck out to me were an old cellar, an old well and a beautiful waterfall. One fascinating thing that we found while exploring the old cellar was a geocache. After I saw the geocache that day I intended on telling my dad about the idea so that we could go out searching from them when I got back to Hopkinton. When the hike was over and it was time to go back to Cardigan lodge one thing that I brought back from the waterfall (besides myself) was my sketch book. In my sketch book I recorded everything that we saw that was interesting.
After the hike was over and we got back we had free time. During this free time My friends and I played cards and relaxed. After free time we had chicken and salad for dinner. When dinner was over we went upstairs to dress warm for the outdoor evening activity. For the evening activity we went for a night hike while blindfolded and then did an activity once we got to our destination to show us that sight is the most important sense. We also talked about why it was the most important sense.
When the evening activity was over and we walked back everybody's vision was still messed up. When we arrived back at the lodge Mr. Woolner read us an evening story and then we washed up and "went to bed". When we went to bed we actually just stayed up talking.
