Day 2

September 27 2018

Red

On the second day of the Cardigan trip we hiked Cardigan mountain. My hiking group got to the summit via Firescrew. Early on in the trail it was fairly flat, with a lot of deciduous trees. As the hike got steeper, and our elevation began to get higher there were more pine trees, and the trees were not as tall. Soon we were past the region of mostly coniferous trees, and near the summit of firescrew. At the top of firescrew it was a fairly flat rock face, with marshy areas scattered around. After a short hike from Firescrew to Cardigan, my hiking group met everyone else near the firetower. Cardigan's summit had a beautiful view, with mountains visible from every side, and birds swooping above the trees. The hike back to the lodge started steep, then flattened out for a long stretch of streams and thick forest. After dinner that night we sat around a campfire and did skits. Cardigan lodge is in the region of Welton Falls State Park, and Cardigan Mountain State Park.
