Summary: In 1493, after a little more than a year of Columbus traveling around in the Carribean Islands, a fight broke loose. This fight was between the natives and Columbus and his crew. With a wrecked Santa Maria because of powerful tides, they only had one, small ship, the Nina. Then the Pinta showed up after leaving to explore on their own. The two ships went back to their home land, Spain. First going northeast then east because of a star on the parellel of a city in portugal. When going east, they encountored a storm. The Nina was damaged badly and the Pinta was separated. The Pinta's trail was not recorded, but the Nina had to go to the Azores, an Island owned by Spain's arch enemy, Portugal.Columbus had to nogatiate for their stay, and he was thrown into prison. Then, he was released under one condition, that he went to portugal on his way to Spain.

I think that the holiday with the title of "Columumbus day" should be changed to "Inindedious peoples day". This is because Columbus does not deserve that kind of respect from all of America. He enslaved hundreds of people, and they thought of him as better than themselves, he used this against them. Also, Columbus lied to all of his crew. He tricked them into getting onto the ship, and he tricked them into him getting gold, and he tricked them into thinking that they were close to what they thought was Asia. In conclusion, Columbus does not deserve the respect of a whole country for a day.
