In 1492 Christopher Columbus discovered america. He and his crew planted their flag and claimed the land as theirs. At the time they thought they were in Asia. They met the natives and since Columbus thought they were somewhere in india so he named them the Indians. The locals showed them there food and how they lived. Columbus wanted to bring some of the ideas and goods back to europe. During all this he did not know he had discovered a new land.

Palm trees: Columbus was amazed by the trees he saw. They littered the beach and island.
Tobacco: When Columbus came to the island he saw the locals smoking a plant he was intrested but had no idea of what it was.
Birds: When Columbus and his crew came to the bahamas they saw butiful birds in the sky
Yuca: The yuca plant was a vegtable the the natives enjoyed and Columbus brought back.
Sweet potatoes: Columbus and his crew were interduced to a potato which was sweet and was orange.
Barley or millet: When Columbus went to the bahamas he was looking for new thing including spices.
Corn: Columbus and his crew were fasinated by the corn a vegtable that they had never seen so natruly they brought it back.
Pepper: The peper was a spicey food that Columbus liked so he brought it back.
Cigars: Columbus found cigars very intresting it was a rolled up leaf that the set to burn and smoked.
Hammocks: Columbus throught this was an ingenous idea that would save lives of solgires on ships.
