` Cardigan mountain is located in the north east of the united states, and in the state of New hampshire, north of concord. It is near the AMC lodge, and is surrounded by many mountains, including Firescrew, Rimrock, South Peak and Orange Mountain. It is about an hour from Hopkinton New Hampshire. Its exact coordinates are 43.6498 degrees North, and 71.9148 degrees West. Cardigan is also surrounded by many trees, and also wildlife. Mount Cardigan is a cold place to be during the winter months, because it is more north than where we live.
A place is something that is defined by everything in it. Cardigan can be defined by very much of what is in it.
Physical- Cardigan has a lot of trees. There are trees, and trees, and trees everywhere. If you went to the city, you would not find half of what you would find in the wilderness of Cardigan Mountain. There are also rivers, rocks, caves, waterfalls, and of course, mountains! Mountains are formed by the tectonic plates moving together causing the land to be pushed upwards. The land has great soil, water, and sunlight, which is perfect conditions for plants to grow. However, there are bad things that have happened on Cardigan- The fire that made the top bare. The fire spread and killed all living things in its path. That is why there is a firetower on the top.
Cultural- The firetower is on Cardigan to help protect it from another fire striking. Humans put it there to help protect the wildlife. This is one of Mt. Cardigans very defining characteristics. Another one is the abundant hiking trails, the manning trail actually was used as horse and carriage trail, to bring things or people up the mountain! That makes a great path for hiking- whether with your family, alone, or on a field trip with our seventh grade class, it is great fun. Cardigan is a great place to view nature. As we have worn out this mountain, there have been tweaks made to the surface, such as the beautiful wooden bridges to cross over. Wherever you go, there will be a lot of things about Cardigan, that are special to only it.
we were at Cardigan mountain for three days: Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday. These days were in the begining of October, 1-3.
