In 1493 Columbus and his crew decided that it was time to head back to Spain. Then finally after 6 weeks, the pinta showed up leaving a squadron back in Cuban waters. allowing some of the crew to return home. The Santa Maria was hit by a coral reef so they weren't able to get all of the crew back to Spain. Now that they have loaded up they are ready to return home. Christopher was then faced up against an Indian who he thought was a cannibal. Columbus sent 7 members of his crew down to meet 50 of the native's tribe. Armed with bows and arrows and parrot feathers in there hair the men attempted to negotiate a trade. The men bought two books and then a huge argument brock out between the natives and the Spaniards. The men launched some arrows and hit one native in the chest and another in the bum. After this on January 16th, the crew set sail on their voyage back to Spain. They headed almost straight up towards the north pole and then turned to Spain. A horrible storm separated The Nina and The Pinta. After three days of fighting the storm finally gave up and the boats were in terrible shape so, at the first sight of land, they had to go and get repairs. Unlucky for them they had to stop in the Azores which are islands belonging to the country of Portugal. being a Spanish troop the Portuguese were most likely to either kill them or throw them in the dungeon. They did get their boats fixed but they agreed to stop in at Portugal to tell the king and queen of there doing. after that, they then headed home to Spain.
