Columbus and his crew intended on traveling back to Spain after their exploration of the new land was complete, and after one of their three ships, specifically the Pinta, had reappeared. after about six weeks. Finally, on January 16th their voyage home had actually begun and they left the Cuban waters to head, (initially) for Spain. Sadly, their plan crumbled when they got caught up in an awful storm and in turn, ended up having to take a detour to then land on an island of the name, Santa Marie (In the Azores) Anchoring in the bay Columbus sent half of the Nina's crew on the mainland whom did not go very far.They were soon to be arrested by the natives. After days of negotiation, Columbus succeeded and demanded the reslease of his crewmen. they now, finally set off on February 24th, and do manage to limp their way back to Spain.
