What: The west Indies is divided up into three physiographic regions, the Greater Antilles, the Lesser Antilles, and the Bahamas.
When: The shape of the Great Antilles was affected by a chain mountains in the Cretaceous time period. By now, most of theses mountains are submerged.
Where:These regions stretch from Florida of the USA to Venezuela on South America.
Why:Some countries have passed laws against cutting down forests in the West Indies because they do not want the very important forests to diminish again.

Answering and I Wonder Question: The Duarte peak is the highest peak on the Dominican Rebublic. It is infact climbable. This mountain is 10,164 feet tall or 3098 meters. There are multiple climable trails, the easiest beggining from the town of La Cienaga. And did you know that about 10 to 15 people climb Duarte Peak a day?
