Location: At the base of Mt. Cardigan is the AMC Lodge. This is where we all ate breakfast, dinner, and slept after our long day of hiking. The lodge's latitude is 43 degrees, 38 minutes 57.3 seconds North. Its longitude is, 71 degrees 52 minutes 39.5 seconds West. And finally its elevation is 1,387 feet! Cardigan is west from Newfound lake and a little bit more than and hour from Hopkinton. With it being so close to Hopkinton i would love to visit it again.
Place: At the top of Mt. Cardigan we had a beautiful view of all the other mountains such as Firescrew and Rimrock. We saw lakes, rivers, windmills and houses in the far distance. Up on the summit of Cardigan, there were trees and trees, never ending. But we did not just wing it going up the mountain there were trail markers spaced out, helping us get to the top of two or more different summits. But that wasn't it. The trails we walked on were packed down from all the hikers. But each night we would go back to the lodge where we stayed over night resting for the next days long hike. The lodge was great. We were supplied with everything we needed to stay for 3 days. They made us dinner, breakfast and gave us everything we would need to make our lunches. This trip was so much fun I couldn't ask for a better time.
We were there for 3 days-Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. On Wednesday we walked two nature trails, the high trail and the low trail. Thursday we hiked to the summit of Firescrew, Cardigan and South Peak. The last day was Friday which we went to the Welton Falls and left after that hike to go home.
