And I think you should mention cotton, but not sure. When Columbus landed on the southernmost tip of Cuba, he named it Juana, after Ferdinand and Isabella's daughter. He thought he was somewhere near China, in the indies. This is why he named the natives indians. while columbus and his crew explored cuba, they discovered many new items, such as potatoes, corn, wheat, Indians,cotton, palm trees, maize, yuca, tobacco, etc. Columbus describes in his logbook how the natives of San Salvador offered him tobacco leaves, things that were smoked and inhaled. He thought that the tobacco would be useful to people with lung probems, so he brought it back to spain and told them that if they moked it, it would heal thier problems.
