Place of Mt Cardigan
Mt. Cardigan is a very interesting place. For example, the lodge itself was built by many different people and is stayed in by many people all year long. There is also the trail markers, cairns, and blazes that are all along each trail to make sure that people do not get lost. The fire tower at the summit of Mt. Cardigan was built in 1904 and is still used today to locate wildfires that might start around the area. What they do is they have one person whose job is to go into the firetower everyday and scan for fires. If they see one they call it in and get firefighters to take care of it. Next is the cellar holes that are built along many of the trails at Mt. Cardigan. These cellar holes are from around the 1700s to the 1800s. They are very old but many of them are still standing and resemble where a house once was.
Mt. Cardigan may be very cultural and have lots of people but it is still a mountain and it still has plenty of physical geography! to go around. Welton Falls, for example, it is a waterfall that is all natural and falls into a mini lake which then goes into a stream. This is all formed by nature without the help of humans. Second, is all the things growing on top of the peaks. There is mountain cranberries (which are edible but do not taste to good after you have had a bunch) or there is moss, different kinds of trees, many different plants, and more. Speaking of different plants, there is a plant that lives down more to the base of Mt, Cardigan called the Hobblebush. It is a greenish plant with kind of spiky leaves and it flowers with very pretty white flowers in the spring. Finally, there is weather. Weather is physical geography and can change rapidly from a beautiful warm sunny day to torrential downpour. The first and second days that I was at Mt. Cardigan where beautiful with warm weather, sun, and no clouds. But, the third day was overcast, cold, and rainy. That just goes to show that weather is very different and has a mind of its own. Mt. Cardigan is a very exciting place with things from cellar holes to waterfalls, and fire towers to the hobblebush. It has plenty of cultural and physical geography which is very good and makes it all the more fun.
We were at Cardigan for 3 days, Wednesday October 4, Thursday October 5, and Friday October 6.
