The summit of Mt. Cardigan is located at 43 degrees, 38 minutes and 58.4 seconds north, and 71 degrees, 54 minutes and 51.7 seconds west. This is located around south from the summit of Mt Firescrew. It is 3,156 feet above sea level. It is also located about 15 feet away from its fire tower. That is the location of the summit of Mt. Cardigan.
Mt cardigan and the surrounding area owned by the AMC lodge has many physical features that make it special and different. For example, no other places have the rock summit of Cardigan with a small, 3 inch tall spruce tree, and and Firescrew with a rare alpine bog, one of three in New Hampshire and eleven in New England. Also, there is a huge chunk of pure quartz right next to the trail covered in lichen. There were also no oak trees that we saw, but there were tons of maple trees, including red, striped, goosefoot and sugar, and hobble bushes.
There were also cultural things that made it different and special. For example, there was a dead line of trees planted years ago by humans going through the woods. Also, there was the AMC lodge itself, built by humans, and trash on the trails, left by humans. There was also a man walking his dog on the way up to the top my group saw, along with a helicopter flying over us. These are great examples of cultural and physical differences and things that make it special.
We were at Cardigan for three amazing days. We got there Wednesday the 28th, stayed overnight to Thursday the 29th, and left Friday the 30th.
