Volcanoes formed an underwater chain of mountains in the West Indies. They aren't currently exploding, luckily! The islands in the West Indies are mostly u and c shaped.

Tourism and Farming are the most important industries because there are lots of farms. Since there is lots of hot weather and beaches, tourism is also a main industry. The islands wouldn't be as visited if they weren't beautiful and warm, because that's what people come for.

the West Indies? The first permanent settlement in the West Indies is in the Western Hemisphere in 1496. It is now called Santo Domingo, capital of the Dominican Republic. Buildings in this city date back to the 1500's.

The Greater Antilles, Lesser Antilles and The Bahamas make up the West Indies. In the Bahamas, the massive Andros Barrier Reef is a popular place for snorkeling and scuba diving!
3. History- Name four groups who have influenced the culture of the Caribbean region.
Native Americans, Europe, Africa and Asia have influenced the culture of the West Indies. It's funny how the culture was influenced by these places, probably why Columbus and crew were so decided about the fact that they were "Indians."
4. Government- How is Cuba different from every other country in the Western Hemisphere?
Cuba is a communist country whereas there are no other countries in the Western Hemisphere that are. Havana is the capital of Cuba, with streets lined by pastel houses and 1950's cars cruising down the street.
