Cardigan mountain

Mount Cardigan lodge is located to the east of orange and west of bridgewater. The longitude and latitude of it are 43 degrees 40'03.6"N 71 degrees 55'00.8"W. Me and my grade went there for a few nights for a geography trip. We hiked the the mountain and when we got to the top it was all stone and there was an amazing view over everything. Getting up the mountain was a challenge though especially for the last 15-30 minutes because it was a sheer 45 degree angle and burned your legs we had to take many breaks. Finally we got the top and from here we went down to firescrew the neighboring mountain of cardigan. There we saw an amazing bird called a Merlin that was super rare to see and our guide who has been looking for them for fifteen years had only seen two others before and he freaked out. From there we saw one of the I think 11 alpine bogs but it was not so interesting. Then we hiked down the mountain and went back to the lodge. An example of movement because we climbed up the mountain and back down and we traveled to cardigan and back we were there for three days, wednsdaythurdayfriday.

This year me and my grade went to Mount Cardigan. When we were there we went on nature walks and hiked cardigan and firescrew. Some of the physical features there were the big overhanging rocks that are everywhere. On our way down from firescrew we came across one of those large hanging rocks it was just lying on a small rock that if it gave way that huge rock would have gone tumbling down the mountain. Another thing was that it was all wet for most of the time on the ground because of the recent rainfall and it was hard going down the steep hills because we would slip and slide everywhere. On the summit of cardigan it was very dry though because of the very high wind and cool temperatures that would chill your face and make you very cold. Also the summit was all bare rock so not much water could accumulate on it. The last physical feature is one of the 11 alpine bogs in New England that was on top of fire screw and was very interesting because we saw a very rare bird called a Merlin up there.

Some cultural features we saw at mount cardigan were very different than the physical features we saw. We saw many bridges that sometime would cross water and sometimes they would just cross over a pit in the land form. Another sort of transportation thing is the ski trails, as we hiked around we saw many of these ski trails but the most memorable one was pj ledge. Because the people would ski down in their pajamas down a steep slope. The last cultural feature are the apple trees, you would not think this is a cultural feature but apple trees are not native to New Hampshire. People from England came over here and planted apple trees in numbers because apple trees need other apple trees in order to grow.
