Location of the Cardigan Summit

Relative: Cardigan summit is south of Firescrew and west of the AMC lodge. It is northwest of Hopkinton, New Hampshire. There is a big puddle on the summit next to the fire tower which is located on the summit. On the summit there are markings all over the place to represent the people who had died there. You could see a mountain in Maine and Mt. Kearsarge which is not far from us. Not many trees at the very top lots closer to the bottom. There was very much lichen on the top. The summit is bare rock. Absolute: N43 dergrees 38 mintues 53.4 seconds W 071 degrees 54 minutes 51.8 seconds

Place

Some of the really cool things about Cardigan mountain was that the summit was pure granite. The summit was also completely bare! Another cool thing about Firescrew there was the alpine bog. The alpine bog we saw was one of 3 in New Hampshire. The bog has enough acid where it would not hurt us if we got in but some plants cannot grow because of it. In the bog there was this spongy substance that could hold crazy amounts of water and other substances. While we were sketching the bog a Merlin (bird) looking at us. It flew off before any of us got a proper look at it.

Some of the cool cultural things about Cardigan were that there were lots of steps made out of rocks and trees so we had a path to walk on and there was trail markers so we could know which way we were going. The people leading us were very nice and always kept us on track. The lodge was pretty cool also. There were separate rooms that we shared with our friends. All of the food was really really good. While we were there we had tacos and lasagna for dinner. On the mountain there were rock statues called cairns. Welton falls was also really cool my group got to go down to the waterfall and climb on the rocks. My overall experience at Cardigan mountain was great and we all had lots of fun.
