1. What is the main idea of the chapter "Climate?"

The main idea of the chapter "Climate," is that warmth from the sun and rain gets carried around the earth by water and wind. This creates differents climates all around the globe.

2. Reading Check Questions on 54: What is the difference between weather and climate?

The difference between weather and climate, is that weather is unpredictable and it changes over a short period of time, whereas climate is predictable weather patterns over a long period of time.

3. Applying Map Skills Question 1. In which general direction does the wind blow over North America?

The general direction that the wind blows over North America, is from the West, towards the East.

4. Applying Map Skills Question 2. What winds did European sailers use to get to South America and the islands north of it?

The winds that the European sailors used to get to South America and to the islands north of it, were the Northeasterly trade winds

5. How does the tilt of the Earth affect climate?

The tilt of the Earth affects climate because some areas on Earth receive direct sunlight, while others receive indirect sunlight. Areas such as The Tropics receive direct sunlight and experience a warm, rainy climate, and on the other hand, areas like The Kalahari Desert receive indirect sunlight and experience a dry, sunny climate.

6. How does this relate to the

This relates to the Voyages of Columbus because when Columbus was making his return voyage, he reached a point in the ocean exactly at 30 degrees. While in this area, Columbus boats experienced little to no wind at all for about nine days. According to my map, this is where winds go in two separate directions, so therefore, there would not be very much wind to move his ships along.
