Day Two at Cardigan: Human Environment Interactions
When I got up at 6:30 on Thursday morning, I was very tired and sore, but I was also excited for another exciting day of hiking. It was my groups turn to set up the tables for breakfast, so sadly, I had to get down to the dining room a little bit before everyone else. :( But today was going to be very fun...we were going to hike Mt. Cardigan!! All day I hiked up and down mountains, over hills, down steep trails, through puddles, peed in the woods...again, and sat down many times to rest. A cool thing that I saw was a helicopter that flew around Cardigan Mountain. I also saw many stone cairns marking the trails and summits (these are examples of how humans change the environment: Human Environment Interactions). In total, we hiked five mountains. They were Firescrew Mountain, then Cardigan Mountain, then Rimrock Mountain, then South Peak, and lastly Orange Mountain. All these mountain climbs made me very tired and hungry, so I enjoyed a peanut butter sandwich, a cookie, an apple, and lots of trail mix - that I had to eat off the ground (these are examples of how the environment changes humans: Human Environment Interactions). Along the way, my group did many sketches just like on day one, but this time I drew only 6 drawings. These sketches included a small red leaf with bright green veins, Mt. Cardigan and the fire tower on top of the summit, a big jagged rock that many people climbed on, a spiky spruce, and a stump with a large amount of mushrooms on it.
When the 7th grade got back to the lodge, we had free time again, and then a very good dinner of lasagna and ice cream. After supper, we were given a very nice surprise...a campfire! At the campfire we sangs while Fern played on her ukulele. We acted out skits, told jokes, told stories and way more. After the extremely fun campfire, it was time for storytime. Mr. Woolner read us stories that his uncle wrote. They were actually very interesting. During story time, I brushed Tessas hair while sitting on a very uncomfortable stool. After storytime, it was time to go to bed. :( I stayed up and talked with my friends for about a half an hour, but then I decided to get some shut eye. But then, even after I decided to go to sleep, I couldn't because my roomates were being noisey. But overall, day 2 at cardigan was just as good, maybe better than day 1.
