Day One at Cardigan: Movement
Going on the Mt. Cardigan field trip was fun, busy, and very tiring. We did a lot, and these examples are just a few of them. First I rode the noisy bus to the lodge along with the rest of the seventh grade (this is an example of the Movement of people). I was sitting in the back of the bus and that probably was not a very good idea, because it was very noisy and chaotic back there. When we got to the lodge, we went outside and played a variation of sharks and minnows on the lawn. After that, we ate our bagged lunch, and met our guides/teachers. Then we got going! We learned what our hiking groups were, did our first sketch (which was the AMC lodge), and got to moving. Along the way to Welton Falls, I took lots of pictures of the beautiful wildlife. My group also drew a lot of sketches, nine in all! These sketches included a sketch of the AMC lodge, an Eastern Hemlock branch, a large mushroom mass and slug on the side of a Sugar Maple, a dead tree hanging over the side of a cliff, a Witch's Nose leaf, the Welten Falls, an egg mass, a Basswood Tree with 7 trunks coming out of one base, and an Aspen Tree leaf. On our way back to the lodge, I looked in my backpack and realized that my water bottle had totally emptied out, soaking the contents in my bag! Luckily, I was able to dry my clothes out before the next hike.

After a long day of hiking, we went back to the lodge, and I did some more work. I spent a lot of time cleaning up our room because me and my roomates just threw our things on the ground, anxious to get going. To be honest, I overpacked way too much. I brought too many coats, pants, sweatshirts water bottles etc (this is an example of the Movement of things). After free time, we ate our first dinner at the lodge. It was a great meal of tachos and a very good dessert...BROWNIES! They were good! Later, we went out and played games in the dark. We played a game where we were blindfolded and we had to try and find each other in pitch black, a nocturnal game (this is an example of the Movement of ideas: our teacher brought the ideas for the games from wherever she learned it originally), and we also did a night hike. After that we had storytime, Mr. Woolner read us a story about Blackbeard. Last but not least, we went to bed. After a long day of hiking and peeing in the woods, I just wanted to go to sleep! But noooo...my roommates had to keep me awake until all hours of the night! But, I did eventually fall asleep, ready for the second day of Cardigan!
