There were three different ways the islands of the West Indies were made. One way is volcanoes, another is coral that was bulit up over the years and the last is the shifting of the plate tectonics.

The major industry is tourism in the West Indies. This is the main industry because of the warm weather, tropical climate and the many beaches.

The first permanent settlement was in what is now Santo Domingo, which is the capital of the Dominican Republic. It was first settled in 1496. Some of the buildings are still standing from the 1500s.

The three archipelagos are the Bahamas, the Greater Antilles and Lesser Antilles.
3. History- Name four groups who have influenced the culture of the Caribbean region.
The four groups that have influenced the culture are the Spaniards, the Dutch, the French and the British.
4. Government- How is Cuba different from every other country in the Western Hemisphere?
Cuba is different from the other countries in the Western Hemisphere because it has a communist government. A communist government is one ruled by a dictator.
In class, we also doing island reports. Mine is on Barbados, which is in the Lesser Antilles.
