My Superb Second Day at Cardigan Mountain

Sept. 26, 2016

Green Group (D1 B4)

By Louisa P.

Our group headed up Firescrew Mountain with rain gear and water bottles packed. Hopefully it wouldn’t rain. We started out with multiple layers on, but soon as we journeyed up the mountain it continued to get warmer. Each time we stopped somebody took off a layer. Soon we had reached the summit of Firescrew and started up Cardigan. We were warned not to step on the moss and foliage growing closer to the top, because it’s very fragile and uses lots of energy to grow because there isn’t a whole lot of water on top of a mountain. Then we got to the top of Mount Cardigan. It was windy and cold up there. We all put on some sort of sweatshirt to keep warm, which is an example of Human Enviroment Interaction because we reacted to the enviroment. On the way down we examined trees and helped a dragonfly with a broken wing move off the trail. It was all in all, very tiring, but worth the hike.
