My Day 1 Trip To Cardigan
Green Group D1 B4
Loren C.
On the 25th of September, I rode the bus, from the HMHS that is located in the little town of Hopkinton, NH, to the AMC lodge which is located in the town of Alexandria, NH. An example of one of the 5 themes of geography is regions, Cardigan is located in the region of Grafton County.
We were off to Mt. Cardigan! About 45 minutes later, we reached our destination. One by one we unloaded the crowded bus, and walked towards our duffel bags. The AMC leaders called everybody over, and we played a few rounds of some team building games. After a few quick rounds, we all circled around the AMC leaders, and they introduced themselves, and told us our hiking groups. After the quick intro, we were able to grab our stuff, and bring it up to our rooms. After we were settled we went downstairs and met with our hiking groups, when we met with our group, our leader Andy, told us to get ready for a few hours of hiking.
My group hiked the nature trail. Throughout the nature trail, we saw many ferns, trees, and rivers. Along the way we stopped about 5 times, and we sketched or marked a waypoint on the GPS. After we marked waypoint 4 my group hiked back to the lodge. When we got back to the AMC lodge, we had about an hour of free time. During free time we were able to do things like, organize our rooms, play games (indoor or outdoor), or take a shower. After free time, we had a brief group meeting about food waste. When the brief meeting was over, we sat down in the dining area, and ate. For dinner on day 1 we had spaghetti and meatballs, with a side of breadsticks. When dinner was finished, we were served dessert, for dessert that night we had brownies with vanilla ice cream on top. It was delicious! After everyone finished their dessert my hiking group went outside of the lodge, and played a quick game in the front lawn. After the last round of the game we each got blindfolded, and had to walk in a line into the dark woods. It was kinda scary considering we were blindfolded, holding onto somebody while walking in the woods at about 7:30 at night. But you do not have to worry because we each made it out alive!
After the night hike, I went back to the lodge, and went upstairs to take a shower. After my shower, our grade met downstairs in the living room area, and we had a few stories read to us. When we finished the last story, everyone went back to their rooms, and chilled out a little before we had to go to bed.
