Day 1: Human Environmental Interaction

We got on the bus to Cardigan Mountain, I sat with my friend Emily; she brought a white board so we were making funny doodles and admiring the scenery on the way there. We saw farms with food or livestock, some parts of the road were dirt making the bus ride bumpy but still very cool; it is crazy to think humans made all this. As we approached the mountain is was crazy seeing all of the solar panels in the field right next to the lodge, just imagine how much work it was to build and place all those solar panels there. As we got our bags and entered the building the interior of the lodge was incredibly beautiful (mostly made of wood). After settling in and meeting our amazing bunkmates(I was lucky enough to have 3 great friends of mine, Abby, Maddy, and Ellie) we got our hiking gear on and proceeded down stairs. When we got down to the base of the lodge we were split into hiking groups. I was in Andys group with some of my roommates (Ellie and Maddy). After we learned everyone's names we went off to hiking around the lodge.

One of the first things we did when we first started hiking was learn what a Hobble bush was; we got to feel them and Andy taught us what they could be used for. We kept on walking seeing all of the beautiful things in nature, all the trails AMC workers have to take care of, and drawing sketches.

After a long tiring mini hike we decided to head back to the lodge the same way noticing even more stuff. On the walk back Andy put a long piece of rope on the ground we had to walk across and hold out our arms and any plants that we touched/arms went over/ or got in the way, we sketched and learned about from Andy. A great tip I learned was one of the best and coolest ways to learn to identify a tree is by its bark. Finally back to the lodge (freezing my toes off!) we settled down, showered, ate delicious tacos, and listened to a story by the fire, we went to bed after that tiring educational minnie hike. The first day was wonderful having an human environmental interaction with the environment and having a delightful first day.
