Location

Cardigan mountain is located in between the town of Orange and Alexandria, New Hampshire. It is south-west of the Polar Caves and west of New Hampton. Cardigan is east of the town Orange and north of Danbury. Cardigans coordinates are N 43 38 degrees 58.4 W071 54 minutes 51.2.

Place

Cardigan mountain is a very beautiful environment. It has many different features. It has a very windy and big granite summit. The trails to go up the mountain can be damp with many flagging trees. As we were walking on the trails our group leader (Andy) taught us about all the hobble bushes and what they could be used for. Another cool thing we learned on our triplet hikes was about painter mushrooms and how they used to use them as painting pallets. There were many Birch trees and Hemlock trees while we were walking. Their were Birch sides of the woods and Hemlock sides. We learned before we even got on the mountain about the Alpine bog on the mountain.

Cardigan can also be considered very cultural. Many things at Cardigan were added by humans. The wooden steps at Wellington Falls to go down and up with ease, the granite painting on the big overhanging rock at Wellington Falls, even the trails on Cardigan were made by humans. But being made by humans is not always a bad thing, it makes Cardigan unique. The lodge, bridge, railings, and ladder in the middle of the woods make Cardigan different. We learned what cairns were as we got closer to the top of Firescrew. Cardigan is like no other mountain I have hiked before!

We were at Cardigan for 3 wonderful days! The best day of them all, Wednesday; September 28th. The day we hiked Mt. Cardigan, Thursday; September 29th. The saddest day of us leaving the wonderful mountain, Friday; September 30th.
